Yesterday evening, Governor Brian Kemp announced that Georgia will extend the tax filing deadline until July 15, 2020. This matches recent IRS announcements, so both deadlines are now July 15. We expect other states to follow – click here to see the AICPA’s running list.
Here’s what this means for you:
If you are due a refund – file federal and Georgia state returns as soon as you can. Both the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue are processing returns and writing refund checks.
If you owe money – file and pay anytime before July 15, 2020. Let’s get started on your tax returns now, so we can all enjoy a stress-free experience.
If you’re not sure – send us your tax information as soon as you can. We’ll prepare your returns so you can see whether you are due a refund or if you owe.
There will most likely be more tax-related updates this week as Congress works on their next coronavirus economic relief bill. We’ll send updates when decisions are finalized. If you have any questions, even if you’re not a Cross Accounting client, please contact us. We’re here to help everyone get through these stressful times.
